Please apply in our application portal by clicking on the button below.
Applications close 24 April 24.
DSSGx Munich is a 2-month fellowship program for talented data scientists from all around the world to contribute to social initiatives in Munich in the summer months. The program is supported by the Munich Center for Machine Learning (MCML).
When: Every year in August & September
Where: In-person at the LMU Munich in Germany
What: Two teams of 4-5 data science fellows work on projects for the social good - check out our past projects
The project aims to optimise the implementation of Collaborative Care for Depression in German primary care by identifying the most effective combinations of intervention components for specific patient profiles. Leveraging a dataset from the LMU University Hospital, the team will analyse how individual treatment elements impact outcomes to help with effective use of resources and improve patient recovery. The ideal goal will be to develop an intuitive, practitioner-focused prediction tool – designed in collaboration with general practitioners – to provide data-driven decision support that is both clinically effective and practically sustainable.
DSSGx Munich is an unique opportunity to spend two full months working on a real-world data science project, gather invaluable experience and make an impact for the social good - and make new international friends along the way! You can expect:
A full time scholarship and accommodation for the duration of the fellowship (~1500 € / month).
Hands-on project work, that greatly complements traditional academic teaching and helps upcoming talents to grow and develop skills.
Close support by industry-experienced Technical Mentors and Project Managers and further experts.
An educational lecture series accompanying the program.
An interesting and impactful project to work on.
Full-time commitment for the full duration of the program from 3rd of August to 2nd of October 2026.
Joining the program in-person in Munich for two months to collaborate with your team & project partners.
Bringing strong skills / expertise to the project.
This can be in machine learning, data science or coding, but also in the natural or social sciences.
We aim for multidisciplinary teams and are looking for people from many different backgrounds, but it is expected that you have some experience in working with data / writing code, but by no means do you need to be a code wizard or computer scientist.
Openness to team work in an interdisciplinary team.
Good English language skills, as the program will be held in English.
Strong motivation to work on a project for the social good.
Visa or citizenship that allows you to be in Germany for the duration of the program*.
* Since we have limited capacities and little experience with the visa process, we are unable to help with obtaining a visa, but are happy to provide confirmation / invitation letters
